Aeroduc Workstation Shield

Patent pending workstation shield with a built-in USB powered HEPA air filtering system. Targets both droplet and aerosol transmission to assist in the containment of airborne contaminants in the workplace or classroom.


 

Configuration for desktop seated applications

Designed with the understanding that ..

  • The virus spreads primarily via aerosol particles, or secondarily via larger droplets when in close proximity to another person talking or breathing.
  • Plexiglass barriers can shield from exposure to close-range large aerosol droplets but provide no obstacle to smaller aerosol particles which simply travel around the plexiglass barrier.
  • Smaller aerosol particles can only be reduced by diluting them with fresh outside air or by moving them through a filter.
  • Filtering at the source is likely more effective than central filtering although they can supplement one another.
  • Having a low-powered quiet solution that does not require an electrical connection provides significant placement flexibility, for example in classrooms where electrical connections are limited.

Configuration for standing applications

Features

  •  A durable 3/16" thick plexiglass shield to catch large droplets. Designed with a 7-inch space between the bottom of the plexiglass and the counter to facilitate transactional (cashier) or service-oriented applications (nail salons).
  • The elevated fan housing is placed in the trajectory of the thermal plume of exhaled breath where it is most likely to catch small aerosols emanating from someone's mouth, either directly or after they collide with the plexiglass and then travel upward toward the intake fans due to the thermal plume of warmer exhaled air rising.
  • Dual 5v fans, 4,000 rpm, 32db noise level, rated at 15 CFM and powered by a USB connection (laptop, battery block, or 110v with adapter) enabling placement flexibility where an electrical connection is not nearby.
  • Dual level-13 HEPA filters capturing 99.5% of particles 0.3 microns or larger.
  • Thin wall high-quality furniture-grade PVC tubing.
  • Space-saving design takes up almost no additional footprint versus a regular plexiglass barrier.
  • Standard desk mount for seated workstations or add optional leg extensions for standing workstations.

Performance

  • The clean air delivery rate (CADR) is approximately 5 cubic feet per minute (300 cubic feet per hour).
  • The typical workstation airspace is 3’ wide x 2’ deep x 2’ high (12 cubic feet), so effectively this airspace is being changed 25 times per hour (ignoring leakage).
  • The average human breathing volume per minute at rest is about 1 to 2 gallons (2 gallons = .25 cubic feet/minute or 15 cubic feet per hour) so our filtering rate is about 15 times the average users breathing output.

Dimensions

Currently available in a 24" x 18" plexiglass size. Optional legs can be added to the desktop version to increase the height by up to 18". The filters can be rotated if preferable for service or transactional type setups.

Custom sizes can be manufactured upon request.

We use a recreational fog machine to simulate a person breathing or talking and visualize what happens to the exhaled aerosols when the fans are OFF versus when the fans are ON.
